Human Resources Governance Leaders Co., Ltd. (HRGL) is Japan’s first consulting firm to focus on talent, organization and culture, sustainability, and strategy (“HR Governance”) in order to realize corporate sustainability.
We at HRGL are an “Earth-Driven Company.” As the world confronts a critical time in history, grappling with climate change and facing a variety of other environmental and social issues, we founded HRGL in this historical context to build a sustainable earth and society together as one “company” – companions united in the same purpose.
We help companies define the roles of their management and monitoring and build a resilient board where management and governance function in a sound, organic fashion. We work with clients’ CEOs and board chairs to provide “story consulting,” where we delve deep into key issues and connect broad aspects and phases of client business for the long term.
In addition to continuing to provide advisory services to leading global companies in Japan, we have recently conducted a nationwide survey for the Tokyo Stock Exchange with the aim of making corporate governance in Japan more effective and also completed the first survey of Japanese companies concerning their governance practices in the context of realizing corporate sustainability.

Shigeru Uchigasaki is President, CEO of Human Resources Governance Leaders (HRGL) Co., Ltd., the first consulting firm to focus on realizing corporate sustainability governance in Japan. He has delivered board advisory services for a number of global companies from Japan and is a leader in governance reform in Japanese companies by sharing his opinions in the media and academia. Shigeru has a LL.M. from the Waseda University Graduate School of Law and a M.A. in Commerce from the Graduate School of Commerce at Waseda University. He is the author of numerous books, articles, and speeches, including "Sustainability × Governance" and "The Handbook of Sustainability Disclosure".
